Concern Grows Over Electoral Setback Due to Committee in Rupa Shiva Raj subedi -Rupa, Kaski –Concern is growing among cadres that the weak condition of the party committee in CPN-UML Rupa Rural Municipality could become the main reason for losing the upcoming elections. From the ward level to the municipal committee, the organizational structure has become limited to paper only as activism has declined, cadres have complained. A local leader said that the party's support base has been weakening due to the lack of meetings for a long time, confusion in responsibility sharing, and inability to add new members. Agenda alone is not enough to win an election, a strong committee is needed to carry it. Our committee in Rupa is not dynamic, it is difficult to compete with rival parties like this," said a ward chairperson of Rupa on condition of anonymity. Why did the committee become weak? 1. Lack of meetings and training .Enthusiasm among cadres has decreased due to lack of regular meetings and cadre training. 2. Factional influence. There is no uniformity in the municipal and ward committees due to lack of internal coordination. 3. Low youth participation . The organization is running in the old pattern as there are no programs to attract youth and new voters. Considering the upcoming local, provincial and federal elections, there is pressure on UML Rupa to start restructuring and strengthening the committee from now on. District leaders, however, said that the process of restructuring the committee will start soon. "We are aware that there are some weaknesses in Rupa. We will form active and inclusive committees in all wards and prepare for the elections," a CPN-UML Kaski source said. According to political analysts, in a competitive municipality with a mixed population like Rupa, unless the committee is strong, UML risks repeating the results of the previous election.
